Deborah Ziolkoski - British Columbia, Canada
Interactive Listening Lessons Children Love
(Pre K- Gr.7)

Discover how to take classical music from its sophisticated, mysterious realm to one that is child-centered and
fascinating!  Through the inspiration and integration of children’s literature, the compelling music of the great
composers is introduced through storytelling, drama, song, movement and instrumental play. Children of all
ages will be captivated by the engaging listening materials as they nourish many different ways children learn.
Deborah will provide an introduction to the Laban movement efforts and demonstrate how they may be
integrated into such favorites as:  Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks by Mussorgsky and Beethoven’s Symphony
No. 5.

Musical concepts and skills are reinforced as children identify and respond to articulation, dynamics, duration,
tempo and form of the music.  Puppets, props and costumes are used to stimulate children’s imagination and
keep the focus on imaginative fun!  A visual representation of the music reinforces the form for visual learners
as they conduct along; auditory learners thrive as they play along to the musical cues while kinesthetic learners
hop, glide and march to the compelling music of the great composers.  Children will be inspired to create their
own stories and drawings to the music through simple music maps.

Tim Wiegand - Las Vegas, NV
“Energize Your Music Classroom then Light Up the Stage!”

For this workshop Tim will be presenting a continuation of my 2010 National Conference session titled
"Engaging Games, Activities that Work".  In this two part workshop you can expect to walk away with
several practical, creative classroom lessons that will energize and motivated your students to participate like
never before.  We will then experience some original performance pieces for choirs, recorder clubs, dance
teams, and mallet ensembles intended to raise the level of students’ musicianship.  Along the way Tim will
share some great percussion techniques, classroom management ideas, and give examples of incorporating
technology into your performances.
