From President Sue Hey
By the end of May I have more than 3,000 miles on my brain and
body and the change to summer is so needed. After ‘idling’ part of the
summer away, I find it’s time to ‘change the oil’ and ‘tune-up’ for Fall.
Part of my retooling for fall is reading something, finding a new fun idea.
When I took my Subaru in for an oil change , I read the latest Orff Echo
(benefit of National membership) and since I needed a tire patched too, I
read Reverberations.
I found a Turkish rhyme to try for back to school about a crow.
Maybe I can use my crow puppet that is still working on it’s personality!
I also discovered an article by Karen Stafford about Brain Gym with
some ideas about getting class attention quickly and easily that I know I
will try.
Deanna Stark ( one of last year’s presenters) sent along a new
song for school in the E-mail. The greetings are in English, Spanish and
French. That meets one of my goals to broaden the world view of my
students.
Make Cat’s Cradle with your body. Orff Echo 2010 is a fun way to
use your giant stretchy loops. We need to try this at a meeting!
I hope you are all finding your perfect 3,000 mile oil change and
looking forward to a year of BHAOSA tune-ups. (Enjoy the information
on the website managed by Anne Lyon)
No matter what I’ve read, it takes on more life if I can talk about
it with a colleague. One of the great things about the BHAOSA chapter
is the conversation with your music-teaching colleagues from West River,
SD.
Please commit to the ‘conversation’ and the ‘tune-up’ of
BHAOSA meetings. See you in September!!!
Sue Hey, BHAOSA President
TUNE UP AND JOIN THE CONVERSATION!!!
